Properly
fitted riding boots
|
|
| A
well-fitted leather boot not only has an elegant look, but also
serves to aid the equestrian in riding. It is essential to the
rider's appearance and comfort that the boot fit properly. A
properly fitted boot is snug at the top of the calf, broad enough
at the toe to allow freedom of movement, and fits rather loosely
at the heel. A boot that is loose in the calf will chaff the
leg and cause discomfort. The back spin of the boot should come
up to the bend in the knee. When boots are first purchased they
should be 1" taller then the desired finished height. When
boots are broken in they will "drop" approximately
1" in the ankle. It is also important that the heel of
the boot allows slippage of the heel when the rider is walking.
The rider's heel should rise and fall from 1/2" - 3/4"
when the boot is first broken in. After the boot is broken in
the slippage will lessen but will never completely subside.
Heel slippage is important in order for the rider's heel to
correctly go down while riding. When taking your calf measurement
for boots it is pertinent to make consideration for fit over
riding breeches. |
